Current Exhibition

Our miniature MicroBoo Art Gallery makes its debut featuring the artists of our Advanced Art Club! As a group, the class agreed on a theme and designed the layout of the exhibition. Each talented teen chose one color of the rainbow as their guiding pallet and incorporated flowers into their artworks.

Please see below for artist statements.

I chose one of the most common yellow things; the sunflower. I also sculpted Angel Trumpets from my current backyard. *Started at Averyboo in 2015

The color I got was red, which I was pretty happy about. It's quite a bold color, and when pared with greens and blues like our garden theme, it turns out quite interesting in art pieces. I meant for my sculpture to look like a stone fountain, with the animal being a fox, and water spilling out from the red geode its guarding. My second piece on the wall, is a colored pencil sketch of a knight up against a large manticore. The king of the knights crown is to the left, covered in red roses. *8 yrs Averyboo student

Victoria J. (age 15)

These two paintings, both of which I collaborated with Isabella to create, were inspired by the blue nemophila flower. I chose blue as my main color because I love the serene feel it gives my art. The smaller peice of a fluffy cat in a flower hat has elements of space in the background. The second painting depicts a crowd of animals looking through a fish bowl, with nemophila flowers framing the scene. Both of my paintings have parallel themes of sea and space to Isabella's artworks. *10 yrs Averyboo student

I got orange. I like teeth so I added those. To be honest, I just thought it looked cool. [Incorporated tulips into both]

Isabella G. (age 14)

I love space, which inspires most of my space-looking artworks. This is the reason why I also chose purple for the group project, because I can incorporate the color into my spacey design. I teamed up with Victoria to create another small piece of art; a dog, symbolizing the sun and a cat symbolizing the moon, both of which dressed in our corresponding colored flowers!

Lucy T. (age 14)

For the show, I got the color green. The first thing that came to mind for me were sharp, jagged plants. So I decided to make a succulent as my signature plant, and I wanted to emphasize that in my first piece.

For my sculpture, I made a tea pot spilling into the water, so I could take advantage of my bottom corner spot, and incorporate my favorite drink, tea.

Lastly, I made a vine border around my succulent to  make my area stand out even with more neutral, lighter colors.
